Four federal church cases moving through court at once — La Luz del Mundo, Gateway, Kingdom of God Global, House of Prayer. Different congregations, different doctrines, the same underlying architecture: absolute authority, no accountability, money flowing one way.
I want to walk you through four cases moving through federal court right now, all at once, all involving churches, because seeing them side by side tells a story that seeing them one at a time never will.
La Luz del Mundo. Leader Naasón Joaquín García is already serving 16 years and 8 months after a 2022 guilty plea for sexually assaulting minors. That should have been the end of it. Instead, a new September 2025 indictment adds racketeering and sex trafficking conspiracy charges — allegations that the church's own doctrine taught members its "Apostle" was incapable of sin. Four California properties tied to García now face federal seizure if he's convicted again.
Gateway Church. Former senior pastor Robert Morris began a six-month jail sentence in October 2025. A class-action lawsuit is now trying to claw back tithes from members, alleging the church told donors 15% of their giving went to missions while, in reality, under 3% actually did. The amended complaint just added RICO fraud charges — the same statute used to prosecute organized crime.
Kingdom of God Global Church. The FBI arrested leader David E. Taylor and Michelle Brannon in August 2025 on money laundering and forced labor charges, with allegations that women were coerced into producing explicit content. Federal agents have already seized a Tampa parsonage worth more than $9 million.
House of Prayer Christian Churches. Leader Rony Denis is indicted for real-estate fraud using straw buyers, on top of a related $23.5 million fraud allegation against the Veterans Administration — and prosecutors allege he used a stolen identity to obtain U.S. citizenship in the first place.
Four churches. Four leaders. Four completely different congregations, in different states, with different doctrines. And the same underlying architecture every single time: absolute authority granted to one man, no outside accountability, money moving in one direction, and members taught that questioning it is questioning God.
That's not coincidence. That's a business model wearing a robe.
This is exactly what we mean when we say religion and power are not the same thing as faith. Faith doesn't need a hierarchy that can't be questioned. Faith doesn't need your tithe check unaccounted for. The moment an institution tells you that loyalty to the man at the top is the same thing as loyalty to God, you are not looking at a church anymore. You're looking at an organizational chart with a pulpit attached to it.
We'll keep tracking all four of these cases as they move through court.
