Before he left office, a sitting president gave a warning few wanted to hear: Silicon Valley's "tech-industrial complex" had become radicalized. Journalist Gil Duran spent years documenting exactly what that meant, and this year he published the findings in a book called The Nerd Reich: Silicon Valley Fascism and the War on Democracy. His own account of what changed: "They finally were comfortable to reveal their full selves to everyone." This isn't speculation from an outsider. Duran was a real newsroom editor at the Sacramento Bee and communications director for Kamala Harris, Governor Jerry Brown, and Senator Dianne Feinstein — someone who worked inside the system for years before turning his reporting on it. What he found traces from a thirty-year-old ideology to a live, funded plan for private cities outside democratic government, financed by names already familiar from this show's last two episodes.

The Blueprint

The ideology traces to a 1997 book called The Sovereign Individual, which predicted that crypto and AI would collapse nation-states and let a small "cognitive elite" profit from democracy's death. Peter Thiel didn't just read it — Duran's reporting shows he built his career around it, while sitting on an irony Duran names directly: Thiel opposed government for decades "until they saw the chance to claim government power for themselves," all while co-founding a company that sells surveillance software to that same government. He named that company Palantir, after the all-seeing stone wielded by an evil wizard in The Lord of the Rings — a naming choice made deliberately, in public.

The Pipeline

A blogger named Curtis Yarvin coined the phrase RAGE — Retire All Government Employees. That idea became DOGE, a real federal initiative run by Elon Musk. Duran's own words: "Ideas move from the margins of society, from random anonymous weirdo blogs... to federal policy." Yarvin has also proposed replacing the presidency itself with what he calls a "monarchical CEO" — an unelected executive running the country as a company he owns.

The Exit

If democracy is the obstacle, the documented plan isn't reform — it's exit. Próspera, in Honduras, already operates as a private city outside its host country's laws. Praxis has raised $525 million — funded in part through a fund seeded by Peter Thiel — specifically targeting Greenland, at the same moment President Trump has publicly discussed U.S. acquisition of the territory. California Forever has quietly assembled $900 million in land across Solano County to build a private city from scratch. Venture capitalist Balaji Srinivasan, one of this worldview's architects, has said the strategy plainly: align the "gray tribe" — tech billionaires — with the "red tribe," specifically to eliminate the "blue tribe."

The Ledger

The money traces directly back to figures already documented on this show. JD Vance was installed as Vice President partly through $15 million from Peter Thiel, his political mentor. Elon Musk put $290 million behind Trump and Republicans — the same figure cited in our dark-money episode, now revealed as also funding the blueprint for what comes after Congress. Much of this financial architecture runs through cryptocurrency, which Duran calls "a fake, digital, wannabe currency," useful mainly, in his account, for "scams, human trafficking, drug trafficking and crime" — yet, by his reporting, now the single largest moneyed force in American politics despite under 20 percent adoption among American adults.

The Turn

Duran calls what he's documented fascism directly — "a cult of grievance and self-victimization" built on the belief that "rich white men should rule." That's his conclusion, from years of reporting, not a label invented for effect; readers can weigh his case themselves. What doesn't require agreement on any single word: the blog post is real, the $525 million is real, the quote about eliminating a third of the country is real.

The Oldest Lie

Whatever it's called, it's one belief wearing expensive clothes — that some people were born to rule and everyone else exists to be managed, priced out, or exited from. That is an old lie: separation, hierarchy, some of us worth more than others. There is language, in scripture, for a spirit that works against what's real — building a counterfeit kingdom on control instead of connection. Not a claim that any individual person is that spirit in costume — a naming of what that pattern looks like when it shows up in a boardroom with better funding than it's ever had. And their entire model runs on one fuel: enough people believing they're small, disposable, replaceable. Remove the fuel, and the engine stalls.

The Actualization — The Counterfeit Kingdom

This episode's close returns to the standing structure — Don leads it in, Daysha carries the guided piece home. If I harm you, I harm myself. If I bless you, I bless myself. Their entire plan only works if we believe we were always small. We weren't.

Notice the pattern. Interrupt it.
