Suno Adds Speech, Moving From Songs to Narration

The AI music generator's new beta writes a narrator's voice and a matching score in one pass. It arrives as Universal and Sony press a second lawsuit over how Suno's models were trained.
Suno launched Speech on October 1, a public beta on web, iOS and Android that turns a text script into spoken narration with original background music in a single track. Users supply the words, describe the voice and pick a musical style. Suno describes it as the first model to produce narration and a matching score in one generation. Early testers found accents can drift and pauses can run long, and the tool offers no voice cloning from reference audio, according to one review. Tracks max out around eight minutes. Suno has not announced separate pricing.
The company is past two million paying subscribers as of February, when CEO Mikey Shulman reported $300 million in annual recurring revenue, per Music Business Worldwide. Chief Product Officer Jack Brody said "Music will always be at the heart of Suno," but that the vision "has always extended to other forms of human expression."
The legal picture is split. Suno settled with Warner Music Group in November 2025 and has since signed BMG and Believe. Universal and Sony are still suing: their June 2024 case is pending, and on September 18 they filed a second suit in Boston federal court alleging that Suno's v6 models inherit the infringement of earlier ones. Suno had not responded to requests for comment, per Boston.com.
That lands the same week Tidal said it will not pay royalties on fully AI-generated music. Notice the pattern: the category of AI-made audio keeps widening, while the question of who gets paid is settled one format and one label at a time.
